Heads Up! Huge Military Convoys Will Be On Colorado Roads for Raider Focus

Expect potential traffic headaches if traveling on I-25 and several highways later this month.

Fort Carson says more than 5,000 soldiers from Fort Carson will be convoying from the post to the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site in southeast Colorado. The soldiers will be joined by more than 700 others from Oklahoma, North Carolina and Texas. Approximately 1,200 military vehicles and equipment will be taking part in the convoy.

Convoys of up to 30 vehicles per group will take over I-25 and highways 115, 50, 160, 350 and 71 between April 11-22. Fort Carson says they will not travel through Pueblo between 7 a.m.-9 a.m. and 4 p.m.-6 p.m., so they do not adversely affect rush-hour traffic. The convoy groups will be spaced out in 30-minute intervals and will travel at 40 mph.

Fort Carson says because of the increased traffic and slow speed of the convoys, those traveling on I-25 and the listed highways between the 11th and 22nd can expect delays.

Additionally, 30 rotary-wing aircraft will fly to PCMS between April 21-22.
